Hyundai Motor India has revealed plans to introduce the Bayon, a stylish and compact SUV, to the Indian market in 2026, as announced in the latest Autocar Quick News episode on June 16, 2025.

This strategic move aims to bolster Hyundai’s already strong SUV lineup, which includes popular models like the Creta, Venue, and Alcazar. The Bayon, originally designed for global markets, is expected to carve a niche in India’s competitive subcompact SUV segment.

The Hyundai Bayon, named after the French city of Bayonne, is a sub-4-meter SUV that combines bold design with advanced technology. It features Hyundai’s signature Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy, characterized by sleek LED headlights, a cascading grille, and dynamic lines.

The Bayon is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit, paired with manual and automatic transmission options. Hyundai may also offer a hybrid variant to align with India’s growing demand for fuel-efficient vehicles.

Positioned below the Venue in Hyundai’s portfolio, the Bayon is expected to compete with rivals like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Kia Sonet.

Its compact dimensions make it ideal for urban buyers, while its feature-rich cabin—expected to include a 10.25-inch touchscreen, connected car tech, and Level 2 ADAS—will appeal to tech-savvy consumers. Hyundai’s focus on localization is likely to keep pricing competitive, with estimates ranging between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Bayon’s launch aligns with Hyundai’s aggressive expansion plans in India, where it holds a significant market share in the SUV segment. The company’s investment in its Chennai plant and R&D center ensures that the Bayon will be tailored to Indian road conditions and consumer preferences.

Industry analysts predict that the Bayon could help Hyundai capture a larger share of the subcompact SUV market, which is projected to grow significantly by 2026.

This announcement underscores Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and market leadership in India. As the automotive industry shifts toward safer and greener mobility, the Bayon’s entry will strengthen Hyundai’s position as a forward-thinking brand.
