KTM’s latest fully-faired 160cc bike arrives with 19hp power and dual-channel ABS, targeting young riders in the competitive sport segment

KTM India launched the KTM RC 160 today. This marks the brand’s entry into the entry-level supersport category. Priced at Rs 1.85 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, the bike features a fully-faired design and shared components with the 160 Duke.

The launch responds to growing demand for accessible sportbikes among urban youth. Therefore, it expands KTM’s lineup beyond naked models. Moreover, the KTM RC 160 positions the brand against established rivals in the 150-160cc segment.

Engine and Performance Details

The KTM RC 160 uses a 164.2cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. This unit delivers 19hp at 9,500rpm and 15.5Nm at 7,500rpm. Consequently, it matches the output from the 160 Duke model.

A six-speed gearbox pairs with the engine. It includes an assist-and-slipper clutch for smoother shifts. As a result, riders experience reduced rear-wheel hop during hard downshifts. The top speed reaches 118kph, which suits city and highway use.

Braking comes from a 320mm front disc and 230mm rear disc. Dual-channel ABS with Supermoto mode adds safety. In addition, this setup allows rear-wheel locking for controlled slides in off-road conditions.

Design and Features Overview

The KTM RC 160 adopts a fully-faired supersport body. It builds on the 160 Duke platform with sharper lines and a crouched riding posture. Thus, it appeals to enthusiasts seeking track-inspired aesthetics.

Suspension includes a 37mm upside-down fork upfront and a monoshock rear. Both handle sporty cornering well. The bike rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels with 110/70 front and 140/70 rear tyres. These provide grip on varied surfaces.

Features encompass an all-LED lighting setup and a digital LCD cluster. The display shows speed, gear position, and ABS status. Furthermore, the kerb weight stays around 150kg, which keeps handling agile.

In the Indian market, the KTM RC 160 slots below the RC 200 and RC 390. It directly challenges the Yamaha R15 V4 at Rs 1.66 lakh. However, KTM’s premium build and electronics justify the Rs 19,000 price gap.
