Tesla expands supercharger network in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad as part of initial rollout
Tesla has officially begun rolling out its Supercharger network in India, marking a significant milestone in its long-anticipated entry into the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market. The expansion comes just weeks ahead of the expected launch of the Tesla Model 3, which will be the company’s first offering in India
The initial phase of the rollout includes fast-charging stations in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, with plans to expand to Tier-2 cities by early 2026. These Superchargers are capable of delivering up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes, making them among the fastest EV chargers available globally
Tesla’s India strategy is focused not just on selling cars but on building a robust EV ecosystem. The company is tailoring its infrastructure to suit Indian road conditions, climate, and urban density. This includes installing chargers at key highway locations, premium malls, and tech parks to ensure accessibility for both Tesla and non-Tesla EV users.
The move is part of a broader initiative that includes the proposed Tesla Giga India facility, which is expected to manufacture batteries and components locally. Analysts believe this dual-pronged approach—product and infrastructure—will help Tesla overcome the traditional barriers to EV adoption in India, such as range anxiety and lack of charging access.
Tesla’s entry is also expected to catalyze the Indian EV market, encouraging local automakers to accelerate their own infrastructure and product development. With the Indian government pushing for 30% EV penetration by 2030, Tesla’s presence could serve as a major accelerant.
In addition to the Supercharger rollout, Tesla is also working on integrating its Tesla App with Indian payment systems and navigation tools, ensuring a seamless user experience. The company is reportedly in talks with several Indian energy providers to source renewable electricity for its charging stations, aligning with its global sustainability goals.
As the Model 3 launch nears, Tesla’s infrastructure-first approach is setting the stage for a strong debut in one of the world’s fastest-growing EV markets.
