In a groundbreaking achievement for the Indian automotive industry, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has secured a five-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), making it the first sedan in India to attain this accolade.

This milestone, announced on June 16, 2025, highlights Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to enhancing vehicle safety standards in the mass-market segment. The Dzire, a top-selling compact sedan, has set a new benchmark for safety in its category, reinforcing its appeal among Indian buyers.

The Bharat NCAP, India’s indigenous crash testing program, evaluates vehicles on adult and child occupant protection, as well as safety assist technologies.

The Dzire excelled in frontal, side, and pole impact tests, earning high scores for its robust structure, airbags, and advanced safety features like electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking system (ABS).

This rating is particularly significant as the Dzire was the highest-selling sedan in India in May 2025, with over 15,000 units sold, according to industry reports. Its affordability, combined with top-tier safety, positions it as a compelling choice in the sub-4-meter sedan segment.

Maruti Suzuki has been proactive in aligning its portfolio with stringent safety norms. The Dzire’s five-star rating reflects the company’s investment in engineering vehicles that prioritize occupant protection without compromising on cost-effectiveness.

The sedan’s safety suite includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors, catering to family-oriented buyers. Industry experts have lauded this achievement, noting that it could push competitors like Hyundai and Tata to elevate safety standards in their compact sedans.

This development is expected to bolster the Dzire’s market dominance, especially as safety becomes a key purchase criterion for Indian consumers.

Maruti Suzuki’s focus on safety aligns with the government’s push for safer roads, with Bharat NCAP playing a pivotal role in raising awareness. The Dzire’s success could also influence Maruti’s upcoming models, setting a precedent for safety-first design in the budget segment.

As the Indian automotive market evolves, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire’s five-star Bharat NCAP rating marks a pivotal moment, blending affordability with uncompromising safety. This achievement not only strengthens Maruti’s brand equity but also sets a high standard for the industry.
