Off-road focused variant brings longer suspension travel and higher ground clearance to KTM’s adventure lineup
KTM India launched the KTM 390 Adventure R at Rs 3.78 lakh ex-showroom. The model arrived quietly through the official website.
This launch matters because it adds a dedicated off-road option to the 390 adventure range. The KTM 390 Adventure R costs less than the standard variant while offering hardware suited for rough terrain.
Off-Road Hardware Upgrade
The KTM 390 Adventure R features WP Apex suspension with 230mm travel at both ends. This setup improves handling on uneven surfaces. Ground clearance reaches 272mm. Seat height stands at 870mm.

The bike uses 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tube-type spoke wheels. These changes prioritise durability over road convenience. Electronics include cornering ABS, traction control, and off-road modes.

Position in Lineup
The KTM 390 Adventure R slots between the entry-level 390 Adventure X and the standard model. It undercuts the standard variant by about Rs 19,000. The lower price is due to tube-type tyres rather than tubeless spoked wheels.
Power comes from the 398.7cc single-cylinder engine. It delivers 46 PS and 39 Nm torque. The unit pairs with a 6-speed gearbox.
The KTM 390 Adventure R expands riders’ choices in India. It targets those who mix highway travel with dirt tracks.
Beyond the Spec Sheet
The KTM 390 Adventure R allows riders to access remote trails with greater confidence. Longer suspension travel absorbs shocks on broken roads and paths. Higher ground clearance reduces the risk of bottoming out during off-road movement.
Owners gain reliable performance for weekend escapes or rural commutes. Maintenance on tube-type tyres suits areas with limited service networks. Behaviour shifts as more riders explore beyond paved routes, with fewer frequent stops. Costs remain manageable for long-distance travel thanks to efficient engine output.
